Open House can be a daunting evening for many parents.  Too often, listening to the teacher's instructin for the evening one might feel they are in some episode of Star Trek as they listen to what sounds like a foreign langauge being spewed from teh instructors mouth.  Just what is a WIKI or a SMARTboard, or Common Core?

Let me begin by explaining a few acronyms, as we teahers and educators like to throw around a plethora of terms, many of which are below:

  • PBL (Project Based Learning) - This is explained in more depth on this website
  • Bloom’s Taxonomy:  a seequence of learning based on complicaton of task and level of critical thinking which is being replaced by the DOK;
  • DOK (Depths of Knowledge): complicatoin of task and level of critical thinking required
  • ESL English as a Second Language)
  • WIKI: a web application which allows students to modify, or delete content collaboration with other students
  • SMARTboard: interactive white board
